The “Introduction to Natural Dyeing” workshop invites you to begin creating your own dye bath right from home. This is a great opportunity for people to begin re-imagining how items like onion skins, avocado pits and acorns may be used in the process of natural dyeing. Roach, of Adventure Textiles, aims to help others become familiar with how to modify fibers and textiles while initiating conversation about how samples of different foods and flora may be used in the process of altering textile color. There will be small samples of fabric provided for you to test in the dye baths prepared, though if you have a relatively small article of clothing at home that you’re interested in adding to a dye bath, feel free to bring that as well.
Adventure Textiles features the work of Grand Rapids fiber artist Megan Roach. Focusing on the process of creating woven and crocheted textures, Roach continues to experiment with the endless possibilities of natural dyes. Visit her website at: adventuretextiles.com. Lamp Light 2016 excitedly welcomes Roach to the festival this year to empower us while sharing her insight of Natural Dyeing.
